Virginia Living History Museum

By Auvi

Usually when you go to a Museum you look at dead things behind glass or a plaque. This is NOT your normal museum!!! It’s way awesome! Many things in the museum is alive hence the name. It is set up really cool so you don’t miss anything.

There are a bunch of different loops that you walk through that have a lot of different displays. There are also a bunch of different habitats some from Virginia area and some not.

It’s really cool because none of the tanks with fish and animals had tops on them so you could look right in and feel like you were there. My favorite tank was the one with the Atlantic Spade, Sharks, and Sea Turtle. It was HUGE, the size of the whole wall and about 15 feet tall! The turtle was really, really, really big just like Crush of Finding Nemo. He looked at you right in the eyes and just stared, his eyes were bright blue and beautiful. I felt so bad for him he was missing a flipper = (*tear*.

They also had a touch tank with starfish and Horseshoe crab, when we were touching them Kelby decided to take a little swim he was leaning in and tripped into the tanks and got all wet. Luckily no animals were harmed during this stunt!

The downstairs of the Museum was a cool cave you could walk through with bats and tons of snakes. After doing the inside we went outside this was really neat.  It was a huge boardwalk through the forest, and over a big lake. On the sides of the boardwalk there were fenced off areas with different native animals. The fox were gorgeous! They had everything from deer to bald eagles.

My favorite animals outside were the river otters and beavers. Oh my gosh they were adorable, and so playful. I wish I could jump in and play with them!!! The whole museum was really sweet, and we learned a lot of stuff! The staff was really knowledgeable. If you are ever in the area make sure to stop.
