Frequently Asked Questions

Ok so honestly we are too new at this to have frequently asked questions. But we are already noticing come repetitive ones.

1. Why would you do that?
Well the short answer is why would you NOT do it.
The long answer can be found among our website with all the great things our family is getting to experience first hand and discover about their country.

2. How can you afford to live on the road full time?
What a great question. I wish I would have considered this factor before I got on the road. Not really. Vernon runs an internet business where he sells butterflies and moths both for research and art. You can find the website at www.wingdecor.com

3. Isn't it too small of an area for a family with 4 kids and 3 dogs?
We left a 3,400 sq foot home to move into AMERICA!!! So no the space is not to small.

4. How do you school your children?
We have always homeschooled our children. Now we school them by bringing them to the many amazing historic places around North America. Kati has written an overview of various styles of homeschooling.

5. How do you connect to the internet?
We started out looking for RV parks that offered WiFi but that quickly became very limiting on our choices. So we purchased a Dusty Foot Satellite system that is hosted by Hughes Net. It is great and has fast upload and download speeds. The problem with it is that if you are boon docking or only staying for a day it is a pain to setup. So we are getting a secondary system as well. We will be using a wireless card for the times when it is not feasible to setup the satellite. We purchased a Verizon 595 card. It has been great. I can post to the website while Kati is driving.

6. How long do you plan on being on the road?
We don’t have an answer to this yet. Kati would like to be on the road for ever. But we will keep exploring for the next couple of years and see what we think about it.

7. Do you keep a home to return to?

We own a rental home in Utah. We are not sure if we will return to it once we are done traveling. We are sampling many other areas to see what fits us best.

8. How many miles do you travel in a month?

It depends on the place but our average is about around 3,000 miles per month.

9. Have the gas price increase changed the way you plan your travels.

It has certainly put a dent in the budget, but we have made enough small cuts in other areas to make the effect as painless as possible.
